Standard consult

The standard consult for an existing home gives a complete report on any problems you identify and the basics of home efficiency.

An outline of the process:

  • Give me a call and we'll have a chat about what you want to achieve and if I can help you with that. If you're happy to go ahead we'll book a time, morning or afternoon, any day of the week, permitting my availability

  • When I arrive on the day, we'll first have a tour of your house so I can assess the structure and any appliances related to home energy and comfort

  • We'll look at your gas and electricity bills so I can understand more about your usage

  • We'll inspect the ceiling, wall and floor insulation wherever possible and safe to do so.

  • I'll get out my thermal camera and see what problems it identifies. At least a 5 degree temperature difference is required for this to be useful however.

  • We'll look into the airtightness of your house by using the DIY method - turn on the extractor fans and go feeling for draughts with a hot, wet hand

  • I'll spend about 30 minutes filling out my report, checking missed items and gathering my thoughts

  • We'll chat for about an hour to discuss the findings and my recommendations

  • I'll return home to finalise the report and email it to you.

Residential Efficiency Scorecard (RES) Assessment - add $100-150

As an add-on to the standard assessment, I can also complete a scorecard assessment that will give you a certificate. More info here.

The Residential Efficiency Scorecard rates the energy efficiency and hot weather performance of your home and provides tailored recommendations for home upgrade improvements. A Scorecard assessment provides a way of knowing where the majority of energy is used in your home and considers fixed appliances such as heating, cooling and hot water appliances, as well as the construction and design of your home. A Scorecard assessment of your home provides you with an overall star rating out of 10 that represents the average cost of energy for your home. With one star indicating low performance and ten stars indicating high performance.
